Boomer's Sportsbook Celebrates Year One with Rapid Growth

Boomer’s Sportsbook has marked its first anniversary in Nevada, achieving a quicker expansion than anticipated. Originally aiming for 10 locations, the sportsbook has surged to 16 venues in time for the upcoming football season, with plans to reach 20 by November.

In an exclusive conversation with Yogonet, Joe Asher, the Founder and CEO, elaborated on the strategies fueling this growth, Boomer's methods for attracting customers, and its vision for establishing a standalone sportsbook network throughout Nevada. Asher also shared insights on the increasing influence of prediction markets in the U.S. betting scene and emphasized Boomer’s commitment to remaining Nevada-centric.

Reflecting on the past year, Asher expressed his surprise at the business's performance. “We initially hoped to have around 10 locations open, but we’ll have 16 ready by September 1 for the football season, and we expect to reach 20 by November. We are pleased with this progress,” he stated. The ability to partner with casinos and operate within their premises has exceeded their expectations.

Asher aims to sustain this growth trajectory by acquiring more casinos, including larger ones, as they enter their second year and solidify their position as an operational entity. He noted that the next couple of months are crucial for customer acquisition as they gear up for the football season, with a significant marketing push planned from mid-August through the end of September.

When asked about the rapid expansion, Asher credited their technology, which allows them to operate with just one or two kiosks at smaller venues without needing daily staffing. Once the initial setup and licensing costs are covered, the ongoing operational costs remain low, which is advantageous.

Asher explained their partnership structure with casinos, stating, “We align our interests by treating mobile account sign-ups at specific casinos as customers of those properties. This incentivizes the casinos to assist in acquiring new mobile customers.”

He also noted that many of their customers are former patrons of William Hill, which transitioned to Caesars five years ago. These customers are eager to engage with an independent sportsbook again. Boomer’s focus on being a small, Nevada-only business resonates with customers who appreciate this local approach.

Asher highlighted the importance of catering to local bettors rather than tourists. “Local customers can bet year-round, unlike tourists who only wager when visiting. While we do attract some tourists, particularly at Ellis Island near the Las Vegas Strip, our local focus allows us to concentrate on what matters to Nevada bettors,” he explained.

To engage their core audience, Boomer’s runs promotions centered on local teams, such as the Golden Knights and the Raiders, and also supports popular teams like the Nevada Wolfpack and Boise State football. Understanding local interests enables them to tailor promotions effectively.

Asher concluded by mentioning their return to competitive pricing, specifically the -105 pricing model, which appeals to their local clientele.
