On March 11, the Council of Ministers in Albania approved technical standards for betting operators' websites and applications as part of the country's online betting legalization efforts. These standards regulate infrastructure, player identification, payment procedures, and require operators to ensure real-time monitoring of deposits, bets, and payouts by government authorities.
The new Law 182024 has lifted a five-year ban on sports betting, allowing it exclusively in an online format. A maximum of ten operators will be able to obtain a license. Applicants must register a joint-stock company in Albania, demonstrate at least three years of experience in the betting market across no fewer than three EU or OECD countries, and operate solely through financial agents without cash transactions.
